About 13 miles north-east from Benidorm is the small seaside town of Calpe. Within the area is the Natural Park of Peñón de Ifach. This is a massive limestone outcrop rising out of the sea, with exclusive endemic plants and over 300 species of animals, including colonies of sea birds that use it as a nesting area.
The rock soars to around 1090ft above the sea with vertical cliffs, overhanging rocks and a beautiful walkway around the bottom of it affording fantastic views.....upward!
Gulls circle and cry high above you as you approach the end of the walk and are faced with the sheer face of the cliff and the sea crashing on the fallen rocks at the bottom. A beautiful and awe-inspiring sight.
